Magento VMWare Virtual Appliance

This is the first post on my Magento blog. I've been using Magento on 4 sites for the past month and wanted to start sharing what I've learned.

Magento is an extremely flexible ecommerce system, but it can be a bit tricky to install. I've created a VMWare LAMP virtual appliance with Magento 1.2.1.2 pre-installed so that others can easily experiment with Magento. The virtual appliance is built on Centos 5.2 and has all necessary PHP modules pre-installed.

You'll need either VMWare Server or Player, both are free and can be downloaded from http://www.vmware.com. When you load up the virtual appliance, it will display it's IP address on the console, open the IP in your web browser and complete the install. You can then access the sample store at the IP of the virtual machine.

  1. Thanks for this.

I was please to find it is a VMware 1.x format.

I followed the very simple instruction at http://www.knowmagento.com/2009/05/13/simple-magento-upgrade/ and now have a working 1.3.2.1 installation to play with.

  3. Got it downloaded and it runs fine, however there is a small problem with the product links on the front page.

Anyway, a note to other users : When running the Magento setup, i thought that i had to use the root password that shows in the linux console for the database, but i learned that
    it should be left empty.

Now i will do the update as Jasos mentions.....

Thank again for all the work you put into this.

  4. thanks, after a long search and trial and error with LAMPs and WAMPs I found your version.

But I wondering how I managed to mess it up in the install?

The home page links to the products are broken!
